This is a rare opportunity to acquire a hand built hard top four-season Tiger based on a Chevrolet Astro all-wheel drive light duty truck chassis. This Tiger XL AWD (one of the rarest configurations) was PROVAN’S premium coach model with an aluminum exterior covering and one-piece molded fiberglass roof, offering a fully insulated permanent roof camper body rather than the pop-top configuration of their Tiger GT. This Tiger XL AWD has lived its life in dry rural Colorado, has been garage stored when not in use, preserved in original condition, and remains in rust-free, fully functional and unmodified (except for the Yakima rack mounts, the transmission cooler and adjustable rear air shocks). The seller’s research suggests that of the approximately 45 Tiger XL AWD’s that survive today worldwide only a fraction are single owner in original unmodified condition. That puts this Tiger XL AWD in the top 5-10% of all the surviving AWD XL’s.
The camper is powered by a 4.3-liter Vortec V6 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission (with a separate transmission cooler plus the factory transmission cooler) and Chevrolet’s AWD system.
Factory equipment includes: power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, and the original GM cab trim.
The PROVAN conversion features: a .040 aluminum exterior with a one-piece molded fiberglass roof, integrated cabinetry, a dinette that converts to a bed, a slide-out adjustable width cab over bed, a galley with two burner gas stove and two-sided sink, propane hot water heater and furnace, 7.5 gal. propane gas supply tank, a 3-way powered refrigerator, 12V and 110V electrical system, original lighting and controls, enclosed toilet and shower, freshwater and greywater systems, an extra leaf in the leaf springs and ample interior storage. All major systems remain in functional condition, and the interior retains its original layout, upholstery, finishes and hardware.
The exterior displays the original PROVAN graphics, and the original windows, vents and access panels. The coach carries the PROVAN serial tag (OPIM 0890). The seller reports that the vehicle has been stored indoors for most of its life and has not been exposed to road salt, resulting in a clean, rust-free underbody and preserved exterior components.
The seller reports regular maintenance and long-term mechanical care, with service records available for review. This campervan runs and drives well, with no known outstanding mechanical issues. This vehicle has 182,100 gentle, loving and caring miles on it. At 157,471 miles the engine developed a small engine-coolant leak at the intake manifold. The seller had it repaired at a very experienced-reputable mechanic. It was not needed at this time but seller decided to replace the oil pan gasket, main rear seal, timing cover gasket, upper coolant hose, lower coolant hose, engine coolant, thermostat, water pump, belt, tensioner assembly, idler, 100,000 mile spark plugs, ignition wires, distributer cap and rotor, oil cooler hose set, hose-by-pass, fuel filter, push pin, high side service port, and exhaust gasket. This was all done 24,629 miles ago, so it should be good to go for many more miles. After a 10,000-mile engine break-in, seller began to use Castrol full synthetic motor oil along with the oil additive SFR’s (Superior Friction Reducer) and then upgraded to their SFR Gaszol in 2006. It is a highly concentrated synthetic gasoline engine oil fortifier designed to improve lubrication, reduce engine wear, and increase the lifespan of gasoline-powered engines with superior anti-wear properties.
The sale includes the original manuals, documentation and service history accumulated during the seller’s long-term ownership.
